What is OneMacTools?
OneMacTools is a native Mac app with 89 tools for the jobs people usually do on converter websites or with a pile of single-purpose apps: compressing and converting video, editing PDFs, converting photos, transcribing recordings, reading text from images, tidying folders and more. Everything runs on your Mac.
Who is it for?
Anyone who works with files on a Mac: people who email videos and PDFs, creators preparing clips for social media, students and researchers dealing with scans and recordings, and small teams who handle receipts, contracts and documents every week.
Why did you build it?
Because simple jobs, like shrinking a video for email or merging two PDFs, usually mean uploading private files to a stranger's server, dodging ads and sign-up walls, and paying for subscriptions you use twice a year. We wanted one calm, private app that does all of it on your own Mac, for one price.
How is it different from the tools built into macOS?
Preview, QuickTime and Shortcuts cover some basics well. OneMacTools adds the rest in one place: batch processing, compressing to an exact file size, true PDF redaction, OCR for scans, transcription and meeting notes, receipts to Excel, background removal, duplicate finding and much more, with consistent results saved safely to a dated folder.
Is there a free trial?
Every purchase has a 14-day money-back guarantee, so you can try every tool with real files and get a full refund if it isn't right for you.
How do I get the app after buying?
Right after checkout you land on a page with your licence key and a download button. Dodo Payments also emails you the key and receipt. Open OneMacTools, paste the key, and every tool unlocks.
Privacy & security
Do my files get uploaded anywhere?
No. Video, audio, image, PDF, file and AI tools process everything on your Mac. Your files are never uploaded. The app only goes online to fetch a link you give Download Video or Web Page to PDF, to activate and occasionally re-check your licence, to check for updates, and to install FFmpeg or yt-dlp when you ask.
Does OneMacTools collect analytics?
No. The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code. Your settings, presets and job history are stored only on your Mac.
How does the on-device AI work?
OneMacTools uses frameworks that Apple ships with macOS: Vision for text recognition and object detection, Apple's speech recognition for transcription, the Translation framework for offline translation, and Apple Intelligence's on-device language model for summaries, meeting notes and answers. None of them send your files to a server.
Is PDF redaction really permanent?
Yes. Pages that contain redactions are rebuilt with the black boxes burned in, so the hidden words are removed from the file, not just covered by a shape that could be moved. Pages without redactions keep their original text. Always check the result before sharing.
How strong is Encrypt Files?
It creates a standard macOS disk image encrypted with AES-256. Anyone with the password can open it on any Mac by double-clicking it; without the password the contents can't be read. OneMacTools never stores the password.
Which permissions does it ask for, and why?
Screen Recording for Screen Recorder, Grab Text from Screen and Colour Picker; Microphone for Record Audio and recording your voice with the screen; Notifications to tell you when background jobs finish. Each is requested only when you first use the feature that needs it, and can be turned off in System Settings.
Requirements & setup
Which Macs and macOS versions are supported?
OneMacTools needs macOS 26 or later. All tools work on any Mac that runs it. The AI writing features (Summarize, full Meeting Notes, and the best results in Smart Rename, Receipts, Alt Text and Ask a Document) also need Apple Intelligence turned on.
Do I need to install FFmpeg?
Only for video and audio tools. FFmpeg isn't bundled, so if it's missing OneMacTools shows an Install button that installs it through Homebrew with one click. You can also point OneMacTools to your own copy in Settings. Image, PDF, file and AI tools don't need it.
What if I don't have Homebrew?
Install Homebrew from brew.sh first, or set the path to an existing FFmpeg in Settings › Helpers. Everything that doesn't use FFmpeg works straight away.
How much disk space does it need?
The app itself is small. Results are saved to Downloads › OneMacTools by default, so make sure that drive has room for the files you create. You can choose another folder in Settings.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Every tool works offline except Download Video and Web Page to PDF, and your licence keeps working offline too (activating it the first time needs a connection). Translation needs each language pair downloaded once in System Settings › General › Language & Region › Translation Languages.
Using OneMacTools
Where do my results go?
Each job creates a new folder in Downloads › OneMacTools, named after the tool and the time, like “Compress to Size – 2026-10-12 at 09.41.20”. Files appear there only when the whole batch succeeds, so you never get half-finished results.
Can I share results straight from OneMacTools?
Yes. When a job finishes, click Share to send the files with AirDrop, Mail, Messages, Notes and any other app on your Mac's share menu, or Show in Finder to open the folder. For text results, such as Rewrite or Clean Up Text, Share sends the text itself, and images like QR codes and barcodes can be dragged straight from the window into another app.
Will it change my original files?
No. Tools read your originals and write new files. The only exceptions are options that clearly say so, such as “Tidy the folder itself”, “Rename the original files” in Smart Rename, or moving duplicate copies to the Trash in Duplicate Finder.
Can I process many files at once?
Yes. Drop as many files as you like; most tools process them in one batch. For merge-style tools like Merge PDFs and Merge Videos, drag the files into the order you want.
Can I save my favourite settings?
Yes. OneMacTools remembers the last options you used for every tool, and you can save named presets (for example “Instagram” or “Email”) in the options panel. Passwords are never saved.
Where can I see what I've done before?
History, at the top of the sidebar, lists every job, whether it was started in the app, from Finder, the menu bar, Shortcuts or a Watch Folder, with a button to open each result folder.
Does it respect Reduce Motion and accessibility settings?
Yes. Animations are turned down when Reduce Motion is on, the app is built from standard Mac controls, and tools like Alt Text & Captions help you make your own content more accessible.
Finder, menu bar, Shortcuts & Watch Folders
How do Finder Quick Actions work?
Right-click files in Finder and choose Quick Actions (or Services) › “OMT: …” (OMT is short for OneMacTools). There are 19 actions, such as Compress Video to 25 MB, Convert Images to JPEG, Merge PDFs and Make PDF Searchable. The job runs in the background with your last-used options, and a notification tells you where the result is.
The Quick Actions don't appear in Finder. What do I do?
Open OneMacTools once, then go to System Settings › Keyboard › Keyboard Shortcuts › Services › Files and Folders and turn on the OneMacTools actions. Keeping the app in your Applications folder helps macOS find them.
What can I do from the menu bar?
Click the OneMacTools icon to start or stop a screen recording, grab text, pick a colour or open recent results. Drop files on the icon to see the Quick Actions that match them, or open them in any compatible tool.
Does it work with the Shortcuts app?
Yes. “Run OneMacTools Tool” runs any tool on files or text and returns the results, optionally with a saved preset. There are also “Grab Text from Screen” and “Pick Colour from Screen” actions you can give a keyboard shortcut.
What are Watch Folders?
Pick a folder and a tool, and every new file that lands in that folder is processed automatically, for example converting every HEIC photo to JPEG or beautifying every screenshot. Files that were already there are left alone, half-finished downloads are skipped, and originals can be moved into a Processed folder.
Specific tools
How does Compress to Size hit an exact size?
It calculates the bitrate needed to fit your limit from the video's length, encodes in two passes to stay accurate, and lowers the resolution only when that will look better than squeezing a high resolution into too few bits. If the video is already under the limit, it's simply copied.
Which video and audio formats are supported?
OneMacTools reads almost anything FFmpeg can, including MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC and AIFF. It writes MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and GIF for video, and MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC and M4R for audio.
Can it convert iPhone HEIC photos?
Yes. Convert Images turns HEIC into JPEG or PNG in batches, applying the photo's orientation correctly. It also reads WebP and most RAW formats.
How accurate is text recognition (OCR)?
It uses Apple's Vision framework, which is very accurate on printed text in most languages and detects the language automatically. Handwriting and very low-resolution images give weaker results.
Which languages can Transcribe and Meeting Notes handle?
English (US, UK and India), Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and Chinese, plus your system language when Apple supports it. Language models are downloaded by macOS the first time you use a language.
Is Download Video legal to use?
Downloading is legal for content you own or have permission to save, and many sites' terms limit downloading. Please only download what you have the right to keep. See our Acceptable Use policy.
Buying & licences
Is OneMacTools a subscription?
No. You pay once and keep it. Updates for version 1 are free. If there is ever a paid version 2, existing owners get an upgrade discount and version 1 keeps working.
What's the difference between Personal and Pro?
Both include every tool and free updates for version 1. Personal activates on 1 Mac. Pro activates on up to 5 Macs, for example your desktop and laptop, or a small team, and comes with priority email support.
Can I use it for work?
Yes, both plans can be used for work, including freelance and company work. A small team can share a Pro licence across up to 5 Macs; for more Macs, contact us about volume licences.
How do I move OneMacTools to a new Mac?

Troubleshooting
macOS keeps asking for Screen Recording permission.
Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording, turn OneMacTools off and on again, then quit and reopen the app. If OneMacTools isn't in the list, click +, choose it from Applications, and reopen it. The error in the app has an Open Settings button that takes you straight there.
A video tool says FFmpeg isn't installed.
Click Install in the banner, or set your own FFmpeg path in Settings › Helpers. If the install fails, check that Homebrew is installed by running “brew --version” in Terminal.
Summarize says Apple Intelligence isn't available.
Turn on Apple Intelligence in System Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri and wait for the model to finish downloading. Other AI tools keep working with on-device text recognition in the meantime.
Translate asks me to download languages.
Go to System Settings › General › Language & Region › Translation Languages and download the language pair shown in the message, then run the tool again.
A job failed. How do I find out why?
The reason is shown at the bottom of the tool and recorded in History. If you can't fix it, contact us with the message, the tool name and your macOS version.
