How to find and delete old node_modules folders on a Mac

Build and package folders can be recreated with npm install, cargo build or your package manager, so old ones are safe to remove. OneMacTools lists them per project, only when the file that rebuilds them is beside them, and ticks projects untouched for 30 days.

Steps

  1. Open OneMacTools › Dev & Agents › Project Files (or Mac Clean Up › Old project files).
  2. Check the list: each project with its node_modules, .next, target, .venv, Pods and similar folders, and when you last changed it.
  3. Untick projects you're still working on, then Move to Trash.

Questions

Is it safe to delete node_modules?

Yes. Running npm install (or yarn, pnpm, bun) in the project brings it back.
