# Remove Metadata — Remove location and EXIF data from photos on Mac

Strip location, camera and other EXIF data before sharing. Part of OneMacTools, 151 private tools in one native Mac app (macOS 26 or later); category: Images. Runs on your Mac; nothing is uploaded.

Photos carry hidden details like the GPS location where they were taken and the camera used. Remove Metadata saves clean copies without them.

## How to use it
1. **Drop your photos.** Add the photos you're about to share, post or sell with, as many as you like.
2. **Click Strip.** There's nothing to set. Each photo is re-saved with only the picture itself.
3. **Share the clean copies.** They're saved with “clean” in the name in a new dated folder in Downloads › OneMacTools. Use the Preview (eye) button or Show in Finder, and share these instead of the originals.
4. **Check if you like.** Drop a clean copy onto Image Info & EXIF Viewer. It should show no camera, date or location.

## Options
- **No options:** Remove Metadata has nothing to set. It removes the location, camera, date and other hidden details from every photo you add.

## Tips
- Strip photos before selling things online. A photo taken at home can reveal your address through its GPS location.
- Check what's in a photo first with Image Info & EXIF Viewer if you're curious what it's revealing.
- Keep your originals. The date taken and location are useful for your own photo library, just not for strangers.
- Faces, house numbers and documents in the picture itself aren't metadata. Use Blur Faces & Text or Redact Images for those.

## Questions
**What does a photo reveal about me?**
Phone photos usually contain the exact GPS location where they were taken, the date and time, and the phone model. Anyone who gets the original file can read them.

**Does removing metadata change how the photo looks?**
No. Only the hidden details are removed; the picture is the same.

**How do I see what's in a photo first?**
Image Info & EXIF Viewer shows the camera, date and location, with a map link, before you decide.

**How do I remove the location from a photo on a Mac?**
Drop it onto Remove Metadata and click Strip. The clean copy has no GPS location, camera details or date taken.

**Do messaging apps remove metadata for me?**
Many do, but not all, and not when you send a photo as a file or email it. Stripping it yourself means you don't have to rely on them.

**Is the photo re-compressed?**
JPEG and HEIC photos are re-saved at a high quality setting, so any difference is very hard to see. PNG and TIFF are lossless and don't change at all.
