## How to use it
1. **Install FFmpeg once.** The first time, OneMacTools offers to install FFmpeg through Homebrew with one click.
2. **Drop your videos.** Add MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM or other videos, or a whole folder. Or right-click them in Finder and choose Quick Actions › OMT: Convert Video to MP4.
3. **Choose the format.** Pick MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV in the right-hand panel.
4. **Click Convert.** Every file is converted in one go, with progress shown as it works.
5. **Open the copies.** The converted videos are saved in a new dated folder in Downloads › OneMacTools. Play them with the Preview (eye) button or open the folder with Show in Finder. The originals are left alone.

## Options
- **Format:** MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV. MP4, MOV and MKV use H.264 video with AAC audio, so they play almost everywhere. WebM uses VP9 video with Opus audio, made for web pages.

## Tips
- Choose MP4 when you're not sure. It plays on Windows, Android, smart TVs, browsers and every social network.
- Use WebM for a video you're embedding on your own website. Encoding WebM takes noticeably longer than MP4.
- If a video won't open in an app, converting it to MP4 usually fixes it, because the picture and sound are re-encoded in the most widely supported formats.
- Converting doesn't make a video smaller on purpose. If size matters, use Compress Video afterwards, or instead.
- Batch-convert a whole folder of old AVI or MKV files in one go rather than one at a time.

Choose WebM as the format. You get VP9 video with Opus audio, which modern browsers play natively.

**Does converting reduce quality?**
Re-encoding always loses a tiny amount of detail, but at the settings used it's very hard to see. Keep your original if you plan to edit the footage.

**Why is my converted file bigger than the original?**
Some phones and cameras use HEVC, which is more efficient than the H.264 used for maximum compatibility. Run Compress Video on the copy if you need it smaller.
