## Options
- **Rename by:** Numbering, Find & replace, Add prefix, Add suffix or Change case. The other fields depend on this choice.
- **New name:** Only shown for Numbering. The name every file gets, followed by a number: “Holiday” gives Holiday 01, Holiday 02 and so on. Empty uses “File”.
- **Start at:** Only shown for Numbering. The first number, 1 by default. Numbers are padded with zeros (01, 02… or 001 for 100 files or more) so they sort correctly.
- **Find:** Only shown for Find & replace. The text to look for in each name, such as IMG_. It's case-sensitive.
- **Replace with:** Only shown for Find & replace. What to put instead. Leave it empty to remove the found text.
- **Text:** Only shown for Add prefix and Add suffix. The text to add at the start or end of each name, such as “2026 - ”. A suffix goes before the extension.
- **Case:** Only shown for Change case. lowercase, UPPERCASE or Title Case, which capitalises the first letter of each word.

## Tips
- For numbering, sort the list first: drag files into order, because they're numbered from top to bottom.
- Include spaces or separators in prefixes and suffixes yourself, such as “Project X - ”. Nothing is added automatically.
- Find & replace is case-sensitive, so “IMG_” won't match “img_”. Run it twice if your files use both.
- Renaming makes copies, so check you have the disk space when renaming a big batch of videos.
- Want names based on what's in each file? Smart Rename reads the contents and suggests descriptive names.

## Questions
**How do I rename multiple files at once on a Mac?**
Drop them onto Batch Rename, choose Numbering, Find & replace, a prefix or suffix, or a case change, and click Rename. Renamed copies are saved in your OneMacTools folder.

**How do I number files in order?**
Choose Numbering, type a name and a starting number, and drag the files into order in the list. You get names like Trip 01, Trip 02, Trip 03.

**How do I remove IMG_ from photo names?**
Choose Find & replace, type IMG_ in Find and leave Replace with empty. IMG_1234 becomes 1234.

**Does it change the file extension?**
No. Only the name before the extension changes, so a .jpg stays a .jpg and opens in the same app.

**Why are my files copied instead of renamed?**
Batch Rename never touches your originals. It makes renamed copies, so if a rename goes wrong you still have the files as they were.

**Can I rename folders as well?**
Yes. Drop folders in with or instead of files. Each folder is copied with its contents and given the new name.
