# Text on Image & Meme Maker — Add text to photos and make memes on Mac

Add captions, quotes or labels with your font, colour, outline and shadow — or make a classic meme. Part of OneMacTools, 151 private tools in one native Mac app (macOS 26 or later); category: Images. Runs on your Mac; nothing is uploaded.

Write any text on a photo with a choice of fonts, colours, outline, shadow and an optional box behind it, placed top, centre or bottom. Or make classic memes with bold white top and bottom text, add a caption bar above a photo, or put subtitles on a translucent box. Text wraps and shrinks to fit, and it works on a whole batch at once.

## How to use it
1. **Drop your images.** Add one photo or a batch. The same text and style are applied to each.
2. **Choose a style.** Meme for bold top and bottom text, Custom text for your own font and placement, Caption bar for a white band above the photo, or Subtitle for film-style text near the bottom.
3. **Type your text.** Fill in the text boxes for your style, then set the size. For Custom text, pick the font, colour, position, outline, shadow and box too.
4. **Click Add Text.** The text wraps and shrinks to fit the image, and each copy is saved with “text” in its name.
5. **Share it.** The images are saved in a new dated folder in Downloads › OneMacTools. Check them with the Preview (eye) button or Show in Finder. Your originals are unchanged.

## Options
- **Style:** Meme draws bold white Impact text with a black outline at the top and bottom. Custom text lets you choose the font, colour and position. Caption bar adds a white band above the photo with your caption in black. Subtitle puts white text on a translucent dark box near the bottom.
- **Top text:** Shown for Meme and Caption bar. For a meme it's the line at the top; for a caption bar it's the caption.
- **Bottom text:** Shown for Meme and Subtitle. For a meme it's the line at the bottom; for a subtitle it's the subtitle.
- **Text (use | for a new line):** Shown for Custom text. Type a | wherever you want a line break, such as Summer sale | 50% off.
- **Font:** Shown for Custom text: System, Rounded, Serif, Mono, Impact, Georgia, Avenir Next, Marker Felt or Snell Roundhand, all in bold.
- **Colour:** Shown for Custom text: White, Black, Yellow, Red or Custom.
- **Colour (hex):** Shown when Colour is Custom: a hex code such as #FF5722.
- **Position:** Shown for Custom text: Bottom centre, Bottom left, Bottom right, Centre, Top centre, Top left or Top right.
- **Outline:** Shown for Custom text, off by default. Draws a contrasting outline around the letters: black around light text, white around dark text.
- **Shadow:** Shown for Custom text, on by default. A soft shadow that helps text stand out on busy photos.
- **Box behind the text:** Shown for Custom text, off by default. A rounded translucent box behind the text for the best readability.
- **Text size:** Small, Medium (the default), Large or Extra large. It's a starting size relative to the image; long text is shrunk automatically so it fits.
- **All capitals:** Shown for Meme, on by default. Writes the meme text in capitals, the classic meme look.
- **Text position (Where I drag it):** Shown when Position is Where I drag it. Your text appears on the photo in the window; drag it anywhere. It snaps to the centre, the arrow keys nudge it, and it stays inside the picture.

## Tips
- Keep meme text short. Long lines are shrunk to fit, which makes them harder to read on a phone.
- On a busy photo, turn on Box behind the text or Outline. A shadow alone isn't always enough.
- Use Caption bar when you don't want text covering the picture: it adds space above the photo instead.
- Use | to break custom text into lines exactly where you want, such as a headline and a smaller detail.
- For a repeated © notice across many photos, Watermark Images gives you opacity and tiling control.

## Questions
**How do I make a meme on a Mac?**
Drop the picture onto Text on Image & Meme Maker, choose Meme, type the top and bottom text and click Add Text. You get the classic white Impact text with a black outline.

**How do I add text to a photo on a Mac?**
Choose Custom text, type your text, then pick the font, colour, position and size. Turn on the box or outline if the photo is busy, and click Add Text.

**How do I put the text on more than one line?**
For Custom text, type a | where you want the new line. Memes, captions and subtitles wrap long text onto new lines automatically.

**Can I use my own colour?**
Yes. With Custom text, choose Colour › Custom and type a hex code such as #FF5722.

**What's the difference between Caption bar and Subtitle?**
Caption bar adds a white strip above the photo with black text, like a social media post, so nothing is covered. Subtitle puts white text on a dark box over the bottom of the photo, like a film still.

**Can I add the same text to many images?**
Yes. Drop them all; each gets the same text, sized to fit that image.

**Why is my text smaller than I chose?**
Text is shrunk automatically when it wouldn't fit the image at that size. Shorten it or split it into lines to keep it larger.

**Can I drag the text to any spot?**
Yes. With Custom text, set Position to Where I drag it and drag the text on the photo in the window. You see the font, colour, shadow and box as you place it.
